Dinner and a movie? More like lunch and intrigue at The Mayflower Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel. To celebrate the release of the Clint Eastwood-directed film, J. Edgar, starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role, Café Promenade will be offering a one-day-only special menu of Hoover’s favorite lunch on Friday, November 11, from 11am to 2pm. The cost is $18 per person, excluding tax and gratuity.
“I have a dream”: We all know those infamous words and the man who said them.
On August 28, 1963, thousands gathered on the National Mall in Washington DC to listen to Dr. Martin Luther King , Jr. give his “I Have a Dream” speech. And on August 28, 2011, exactly 48 years later, his legacy will be memorialized forever alongside the likes of Washington and Lincoln with the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial on the National Mall.
Renaissance Hotels wants you to be a part of this special moment in history. Be there when the memorial honoring MLK is unveiled and take advantage of a special offer at the Renaissance Washington, DC Dupont Circle Hotel. The offer includes overnight accommodations and up to four complimentary passes to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedication event on Sunday, August 28, 2011.

The Gridiron Club is the oldest and one of the most prestigious journalistic organizations in Washington, but its annual dinner is another thing altogether: a white-tie roast by — and of — some of the most powerful members in politics. And yes, that includes the President of the United States.
This year, President Barack Obama graced the Club Dinner at Renaissance Washington D.C. Downtown Hotel, slinging out a few good-hearted jabs as readily as he took them. Both Democrats and Republicans joined in skits and musical spoofs, poking fun at Chicago Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel, Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney and the like. But at the end of the night it was the President himself closing down the house: “Play that song we talked about,” he called to the United States Marine Band. Seconds later, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” echoed through the room.
Although the Bromberg brothers (the brains behind Blue Ribbon Restaurants) are what many New York foodies would call genius, they aren’t elusive. In fact, both Eric and Bruce Bromberg will be stopping by Renaissance DC Downtown this Thursday, October 14th for a meet-and-greet. Why? Oh, just a little thing we like to call the Blue Ribbon Classics menu now available at the hotel’s lounge, miXX.
Just after bringing their signature taste to Renaissance Times Square, these guys are at it in DC. Come mix and mingle on Thursday at 8:30pm with the restaurateurs and tastemakers, and discover what happens when famous foodies join forces with famous hoteliers—whatever it is, we’re guessing it’ll be delicious.
Summers in DC are suited for the carefree and indulgent. The capital boasts a nightlife that stands out on the East coast, and every year foodies in Washington look forward to the time when Restaurant Week hits. And it’s about to hit.
Restaurant Week DC will bring diners out of the woodwork from August 16-22 in the city. Café Promenade, located inside The Mayflower Renaissance Hotel, is joining forces with other local restaurants for this savory week.
The hotel’s executive chef, Abdellah Aguenaou, worked with historian Keith McClinsey to put together special three-course lunch and dinner menus in honor of the tasty event. The menus highlight the signature dishes that have kept the famous and powerful returning to the spot for lunches and dinners for most of the last century. From Lump Crab Cake Imperial “1953″ to Mayflower Strawberry Pie “1932,” these dishes will teach guests a thing or two about American history while simultaneously satisfying their most refined culinary tastes.
As General Manager Satinder Palta likes to say, “At the Mayflower, great taste is always in style.” To which we might add: especially when great taste is a bargain.

The Mayflower Renaissance DC got an instant facelift last night as Hollywood and D.C.’s brightest descended on its famed Grand Ballroom.
The second best address in D.C. has thrown several inaugural balls throughout its 85-year old history as well as hosted guests from Presidents and foreign dignitaries to Monica Lewinsky and Elliot Spitzer.
Fast forward to 2010 and history was made once again as Capitol File magazine, Renaissance Hotels and Bing hosted the annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner after party. High-profile guests like Kim Kardashian, Dennis Quaid, Bobby Flay, Chris Tucker, Tory Burch, Wolf Blitzer and Ewan McGregor couldn’t stop gushing about President Obama’s comedic chops at the Dinner. And everyone agreed that the Mayflower was THE place to be in D.C.
Angel Taylor (with Jason Kanakis) played to a packed audience at the Renaissance Dupont Circle hotel in the nation’s capital on, appropriately enough, President’s Day. Despite the holiday, and the threat of yet a third snowstorm in a week, the crowd turned out for an opportunity to enjoy an intimate show with this rising star. And were they treated to a show — almost a full-hour of songs and stories from this wise 21-year-old. And those fans who stuck around got treated to an encore downstairs, where Angel spied a grand piano earlier in the day and confessed that the piano is her preferred instrument.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes clip of her at the piano confessing her love for the TV show the Bachelor.
Four more stops left on this exclusive Renaissance Tour.

Earlier this year we mentioned Raphael Saadiq’s new album and tour. We were really excited about his return, so excited in fact that we were a sponsor of his tour. While on the road Raphael stopped by for frequent meet and greets at our hotel. And let us tell you, the man has it together: charm, style and substance. Take a look at some up, close and personal shots from the smooth troubadour’s visit to The Renaissance Mayflower Hotel.
