For a group known for synthpop dance charttoppers, slowing down the tempo might seem like a misstep. But La Roux – they of the criminally catchy “Bulletproof” – did just that at RLounge at Renaissance Times Square, recreating “In for the Kill” for their surprise live VEVO “Go Show.”
Looking for the right location, the English duo chose the RLounge as the perfect background to evoke the “slightly class, speakeasy feel” of the original music video, as well as pull unsuspecting Times Square meanderers in for an impromptu concert.
“It’s just really nice for us to do something a bit romantic, and kind of nice and quiet and calm, which I think is not something people associate with us,” says singer and keyboardist Elly Jackson. “We’re not really quiet and calm. But were gonna pretend to be for like 20 minutes.”
It’s all about being at the right place at the right time. And according to Nashville natives David and Wendy Shen, the winners of our Best Seat in the House New Year’s Eve contest, it’s clear that no one does a party like New York City. Check out the pics, and read how their night went down with Bruno Mars and Rev Run from the heart of Times Square after the jump…
New Year’s IS New York, and you can win a chance to celebrate with us in the totally sold out Renaissance RLounge overlooking Times Square. Two lucky people can enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime, VIP experience compliments of RLifeTM LIVE.
Around 10pm on New Year’s Eve, we’ll shine a spotlight from the hotel down onto the Times Square crowd and pick one winner and a friend from the crowd. You’ll come upstairs to enjoy an invitation-only party at the RLounge complete with complimentary cocktails, Blue Ribbon sushi, performances by Rev Run and Bruno Mars, an exclusive meet-and-greet with the talent and front-row seats to the midnight ball drop… the very best seats to watch from.
Here’s exactly how you can get in the running: starting at 8pm on New Year’s Eve, Renaissance representatives will be at the corner of 48th and 7th handing out a limited number of “Pick me!” signs. Be there to grab your sign—then be outside of the Renaissance Times Square by 10pm and wave your sign when the spotlight turns on. If you’ve got a sign, you’re eligible to be picked; it’s the only way into this sold-out event. Good luck!
The already-busy streets of Times Square get even busier each year on New Year’s Eve. Jam-packed with partiers waiting for the ringing in of the New Year, the bright city lights set the cold crowd aglow as anticipation for midnight begins. Stuck standing in the freezing snow for hours without much mobility, the people outside on New Year’s Eve will undoubtedly wish they were enjoying the action inside at the posh party at Renaissance Times Square. You could be at that party.
This year’s New Year’s Eve celebration at the Living Room inside of Renaissance Times Square is bound to beat the shivering alternative outside. Each ticket to the party includes an all-night premium open bar, an intimate live performance by Bruno Mars, a direct view of the world-famous Waterford Crystal Ball, all-you-can-eat gourmet fare (including grub from New York favorites, Blue Ribbon), and late-night dancing to a surprise DJ. At midnight, guests not satisfied with the view of the ball from RLounge will be escorted to Times Square to check out the ball-drop in person.
Basically, you can do NYE in Times Square the good way or the bad way. And Renaissance isn’t the bad way. That’s all we’re sayin’.

Last Thursday, we flew Angela Sullivan to NYC for an overnight experience we hope she won’t soon forget. Read her awesome account of the night and see more pics after the jump…
We love magical nights. Those nights when you step out of your door, turn the corner, and run right into your favorite celeb. Basically, nights when you know something really good is going to happen. That was exactly the feeling on Thursday night in New York’s Times Square and downtown Chicago as RLifeTM LIVE launched into full gear.
At the RLounge in Times Square, Solange Knowles kicked off the evening DJing a 2-hour set of some of the freshest R&B classics to date. As the dance floor started bumping, Robin Thicke took to the stage and rocked the crowd with his slick demeanor and soaring vocals. After his show, Samantha Ronson donned the DJ booth and cranked it up with some high-energy dance and hip-hop hits. Additional celeb sightings included Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick, as well as Friday Night Lights star, Minka Kelly.
The night was just as busy at Renaissance Chicago Downtown. With their pop-meets-rock-n-roll flair, rising stars Neon Trees performed their smash hit, “Animal,” to an animated crowd of partygoers. We also celebrated the 1-year anniversary of our acclaimed Bar Novo.
And thanks to the intimate setting of both of these events, everyone in the room had a front-row view of the performance. Just like running into a celebrity – except this time, they’re there just for you.
The Blue Ribbon brand has a loyal, almost cultish following – and for good reason. The original restaurant has spawned a movement of culinary artisans all over New York. From sushi spots to bakeries, to the classy joint where it all began, the Blue Ribbon name is a beloved part of New York City’s rich culinary offerings.
For seventeen years, brothers Eric and Bruce Bromberg have been perfecting their art, and now, they’re bringing their expertise to Renaissance Hotels, starting with their New York Times Square location, where they’ll be preparing a menu to complement the hotel’s R Lounge menu. Among the Blue Ribbon classics to be featured at the hotel will be smoked salmon toast, grilled chicken burgers, and pulled pork sandwiches, and of course the famed fried chicken. Mmmmm – that’s sounding pretty good!
Check out more mouth-watering menu items and more cities where we’ll roll out the menu after the jump….
It’s the end of the year. A new beginning. A countdown to the journeys ahead. And a time for cheers and champagne.

Rumor has it that Samantha (aka Kim Catrall) is returning to NY in Sex in the City 2. More photos at Celebrity Smack. And where might she set up shop in Times Square?
