Whether it was Feng Shui, good juju or just a space designed to let the ideas flow, the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel proved to have just what the founders of Bill Me Later needed to get things off the ground. Bill Me Later, a Baltimore area online payments company that was snapped up by eBay/Paypal for $945 million last year, began in the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace, where its first office was located.

What do Philip Seymour Hoffman, Dave Matthews Band, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater and Google have in common? Yup, you guessed it: Eric Lewis. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt aren’t the only ones standing up for charities lately. While celebs are all over the gossip mags championing their latest causes, the Renaissance Dubai Hotel team recently proved that you don’t have to be famous to make a difference. Hotel team members joined the Stand Up and Take Action campaign, a project aimed at breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest number of people standing up altogether in support of the same cause.
And their cause was definitely a notable one: the support of the UN’s Millennium Development 8 point goals, which include reducing extreme poverty, reducing child mortality rates, fighting disease epidemics such as AIDS, and developing a global partnership for development. Over 64,641 people in the country and millions around the world stood together at the same time in the name of this incredible cause. That is what we call teamwork.
Way back in 1927, Marriott associates decided that helping their communities was something worth devoting a bit of time to. Fast forward to 2010, and Marriott team members still want to put in the effort.
That’s why on December 12th, the Vila Sol Algarve Renaissance SPA & Golf Resort in Algarve, Portugal held a charity event for Faro’s Young Women’s Protection Association, an organization that provides a safe place to live for young women and teenage girls. Peter Reischl, manager of the Vila Sol Renaissance, who visited the house where the girls live, said, “Many of these girls do not have another home, they have nowhere to go in life.”
The fundraiser started with a walk or bicycle ride from the Hotel Vila Sol Algarve Renaissance to Vilamoura Marina. After the event, the hotel opened its doors so everyone who joined the walk/ride could chill with a relaxing massage or a game of tennis. There’s nothing that says just because it’s a charity event, all that hard work shouldn’t be rewarded.
A whole slew of celebs including Eva Longoria Parker, Gene Simmons, William Baldwin, Angela Kinsey, Bai Ling, Eric Benet AND 400 of their closest friends celebrated the Rally for Kids With Cancer Scavenger Cup at the Eden Roc.
