There are bands whose music you can’t stop listening to, and then there are bands whose live show can change your entire life. That’s Bad Rabbits, a slick funk five-piece with buckets of swagger and a singer, Fredua Boakye, whose ripping vocals have been compared to Prince. Their 2009 debut EP, Stick Up Kids, won hearts and bobbing heads from a party-ready audience just as diverse as the band itself.
These Boston natives have been busy touring ever since, sharing the stage with such pop heavyweights as Mike Posner, Travie McCoy, Far East Movement, and Foxy Shazam. Before they take a well-deserved break from the road, be sure to see them perform at one of our upcoming RLife LIVE shows:
If you think Restaurant Week is reserved for hoity-toity joints you’ll never be able to afford, think again. The twice-yearly event is going on right now (or, in some cases, will be taking place soon) in a plethora of cities, so grab your wallet and favorite foodie friend for a night of chowing down.

For a group known for synthpop dance charttoppers, slowing down the tempo might seem like a misstep. But La Roux – they of the criminally catchy “Bulletproof” – did just that at RLounge at Renaissance Times Square, recreating “In for the Kill” for their surprise live VEVO “Go Show.”
Looking for the right location, the English duo chose the RLounge as the perfect background to evoke the “slightly class, speakeasy feel” of the original music video, as well as pull unsuspecting Times Square meanderers in for an impromptu concert.
“It’s just really nice for us to do something a bit romantic, and kind of nice and quiet and calm, which I think is not something people associate with us,” says singer and keyboardist Elly Jackson. “We’re not really quiet and calm. But were gonna pretend to be for like 20 minutes.”
San Francisco is no stranger to top notch cuisine, warranting little speculation as to why the NYC-based Bromberg Brothers were bringing their Blue Ribbon cookbook launch to the city by the Bay for a celebration at one of our very own properties- The Renaissance Stanford Court.
The buzz of the night, besides the fine wine and exceptional fare, was the property’s Fornou’s Ovens which served as one of the brothers’ first cooking inspirations- sparking a career of successful culinary ventures and satisfied palates. The brothers’ strong personal attachment to the property served as the perfect ingredient to the event, definitely making it one for the (cook)books.
With the passing of fashion icon Alexander McQueen not even a week old, the pre-Fashion Week buzz in New York was sad and the forecast was gloomy. But the fashion industry, known for surprises, did not disappoint and launched the week with some head-turning looks. From Kelly Osbourne’s new sexier-than-ever style to Marc Jacobs’ new metallic, feminine designs, our attention was officially grabbed. We’re keeping tabs on the curveballs the industry is throwing us this week. We’ll be taking names and numbers and on the watch-out for anyone who graces a Renaissance location this week dressed to the nines…or to the nones.
Head over to our Facebook page and let us know your favorite designs from Fashion Week 2010.
Here’s a recap of Marc Jacobs show at Fashion Week:
Angel Taylor, a break out artist under the umbrella of Columbia Records, kicked off her current tour February 4th in Seattle. The internet is buzzing with raving reviews from the performances since and without any further ado, I have a message for the Northeast: Clear your schedules for this weekend or be forever disappointed in yourself. Angel will be hitting New York Saturday the 13th, Boston on the 14th, and D.C. on the 15th. Not only are these concerts free and open to the public at the respective Renaissance Hotels, but this girl can belt out a note or two about love…if you’re picking up what I’m putting down, you’ll pencil Angel Taylor into your Valentine’s Day weekend.
Any R-Lifer worth his salt in sequins knows what a good party will do for the soul. It won’t exactly soothe it, but it will definitely bring it back to life.
We hit up the Renaissance New York Hotel 57’s launch party in search of just that kind of resuscitation. We weren’t disappointed.
Renaissance New York Hotel 57 hosted a private event for our top group customers and Maya Azucena Band brought the house down with her soulful performance. For more information on this Grammy winning artist who has shared the stage with Roberta Flack, Joss Stone, Platinum Pied Pipers, and John Legend among others, check out her myspace page. She’s one of many hidden gems that Renaissance seeks from time to time to share with you, our guests.
