During World Cup season, it’s hard not to want to be there…you know…there. But since we don’t yet have a hotel in South Africa, we watch, celebrate, and mourn the same way most people in the rest of the world do: from other locations.

Expedia’s recent traveler’s poll showed that worldwide travelers don’t throw out their gold star rating for many UK hotels. Luckily for us, Renaissance Chancery Court is a favorite among globetrotters. The North London location placed 80th in the world for best hotel and 3rd in the UK. And why shouldn’t it? One of the world finest hotel properties is the former headquarters of an insurance company. How’s that, you ask? The Renaissance London Chancery Court Hotel (which, yes, originally housed a Holborn insurance company) was recently noted as “an excellent example of historic preservation” where “rooms are sophisticated.” The Cuban mahogany, French walnut and original art pieces are only a few improvements made to the original castle-like Edwardian building. Need more insurance? It was voted into the Gold List 2010 by a poll of more than 25,000 Conde Nast Traveler readers.
