Upon pushing open the double-doors that head off Renaissance Pittsburgh’s spectacular lobby, you might be surprised by the majestic glow of it all—especially if you arrive at night.
We swung by the Pittsburgh spot recently and found ourselves awed, naturally, with the domed ceiling and modern design. We had some time to sit down with general manager, Melanie Koscelnak, who gave us the run-down on the hotel, the guests, and Pittsburgh.
Read more about the hotel’s design, Melanie’s recommendations for what to do in Pittsburgh, and even a pre-game meal for Steelers fans after the jump…
A used-to-be nightclub, Renaissance Pittsburgh somehow retains that edgy Studio 54-esque feel while maintaining an undeniable elegance. But before the hotel was a Renaissance or even a nightclub, it was an office building—a landmark for the city’s bustling downtown. The building has evolved deeply over the years and so has Pittsburgh. In line with these parallel evolutions is the hotel’s art—all local and constructed with themes that portray various interpretations of the steel-makin’ city.
Speaking of steel, Melanie let us in on a not-so-secret tidbit: the hotel sells out for every single home game the Steelers play. Fans of the team from near and far flock to the hotel for easy access to the stadium, and they’re rewarded with a Steelers brunch on Sundays.
Outside of catching an action-packed Steelers game, Melanie recommends guests of Renaissance Pittsburgh make time for the Andy Warhol Museum and the Arts, Pride, and Silk Screen festivals.
So once you get to Pittsburgh, take your eyes off the magnificent lobby (if you can) and explore the city a little. It’s worth it.
