Cutting-edge Artist Shoots Blackstone Video

Manchester-based photographer, Matthew Comer, put together an impressive video documenting his stay at the Renaissance Blackstone in Chicago not all that long ago. It caught our eye and we had to learn more about this guy.

It didn’t take us long to realize that Matthew is a pretty well-known photographer with images displayed in Urban Outfitters, among other places. On top of that, he was a part of a recent competition centered around Route 66. We couldn’t help but pin him down to find out more about what he does, how he wound up at Blackstone, and what he thought.

We know you’ve spent some time recently traveling Route 66—but that’s all we know. Can you tell us more about why you’re doing it?
I am traveling all around Illinois via Route 66 documenting everything that it has to offer. There was a competition held, and from over 100 entrants in photography, videography, and journalism, I won and was awarded with the title of  “The First Illinois Route 66 & Chicago Ambassador.”

That’s amazing. What brought you to the Renaissance Blackstone in Chicago?
The Illinois Tourism Board has selected this hotel as my first stop as it had a lot of history, and they were proud to have such a hotel in Chicago and wanted to show it off.

Well, your video of Renaissance Blackstone is great. Did you find Renaissance to be unique from other hotels?
Definitely. It was the best hotel I stayed in the whole trip. The attention to detail was flawless, and the overall feel of the building and its staff were fantastic.

Good to hear. Best of luck with your travels… and oh yeah… are there any other Renaissance hotels you hope to stay in while traveling?
I plan to always be traveling and after falling in love with the Renaissance hotel I had an idea: to document every Renaissance hotel out there for you guys! How does that sound?
