Newt Gingrich Promotes New Book in St. Louis

Former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, recently spoke at Renaissance St. Louis Airport Hotel while stopping through town to promote his new book, “To Save America.” Part of his plan to save America includes “getting back to the basics”—a phrase he used while addressing the audience that gathered in the hotel to listen to him speak.

Renaissance Hotels are a regular stopping point for political speakers—Obama spoke at Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace in the Inner Harbor earlier this year. He spoke directly to Republicans at the Republican House Retreat. So yeah. You can come to Renaissance and relax in the hot tub. But you can also line up your stay with a politician’s speech and get all riled up—and then hit the Renaissance bar.

Macy Gray. You may remember her single, “I Try,” that caught the listening ears of people everywhere years ago. And then you might remember not hearing too much after that from the soulful singer with a unique voice. That’s because Macy Gray was taking a break. And her break is now over.

On June 17th, the three-time Grammy winner performed at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort and Spa. Nestled at the foot of the Santa Rosa Mountains in the community of Indian Wells, the resort made a nice backdrop for the acoustic lounge session at the resort’s club, Stir. The private concert was a hit—stay tuned for more happenings at Renaissance Esmeralda.

And The Timmy Award Goes to Providence

By R Life, posted Jun 28th 2010 at 9:51AM

Timmy-Award-Providence-1
news_taghotels_tag
On the website for Renaissance Providence, the hotel is described as a “dramatic departure” from other Providence hotels. And a dramatic departure from the norm it is. Renaissance Providence was built in 1929 as a Masonic temple. Neoclassical architecture brings the walls to life and takes guests down a historical journey as they explore the grounds. It’s no wonder this hotel just got awarded the “Timmy Award.”

The Timmy Award exists to acknowledge hotels for historic rehabilitation. The hotel, described as a “masterpiece” by general manager, Angelo de Peri, is unique—and by that we mean…it’s awesome.

The Maxwell Tour Presented by Renaissance Hotels Gets Underway

The first few days for R Life have been a whirlwind! Our first time on tour and with a superstar, one doesn’t know what to expect! “Almost Famous” comes to mind, the 2000-era movie about a high-school boy given the chance to write a story for Rolling Stone Magazine about an up-and-coming rock band as he accompanies it on their concert tour. But this is reality and Maxwell is a Grammy-winning superstar who is gracious, humble and keenly insightful. You’ll be hearing from him throughout the tour via his own posts and twitter messages so as they say, experience it, enjoy it.

The tour kicked of in Cleveland on May 21 at Lebron James’ house-aka Quicken Loans Arena-with a stunningly phenomenal show that had everybody dancing, clapping and screaming from beginning to end. Due to a tight travel schedule, we made a run to Detroit immediately after the show and reached the Baronette Renaissance Detroit-Novi Hotel at 3 AM. The hotel’s recent renovation is gorgeous bringing a sophisticated city center vibe to the suburbs that would make even the most discerning traveler instantly feel at home.

For Maxwell and the band, Detroit is most important as the home of the legendary record label Motown (visit: Hitsville, USA at the Motown Historical Museum www.motownmuseum.com) and the “Prince of Motown,” Marvin Gaye, is one of Maxwell’s all-time favorite musicians.

Off to the next city, more to come!

If you think you can dance, you probably like watching “So You Think You Can Dance”. The show is a dance competition, organized a lot like American Idol. Dancers and dance enthusiasts alike have been tuning into the show to watch contestants get narrowed down through elimination for nearly five years now. Smart idea, right? Well, the show isn’t the only smart idea producer Nigel Lythgoe has had.   Lythogoe has raised millions for the impoverished and underprivileged through foundations like Dizzy Feet—an organization he helped create. He will be honored April 10th with the Philanthropy Award from the Annual College Television Awards—and the ceremony will be held at Renaissance Hollywood. He totally deserves this acknowledgement and we’re happy to host the event.

Cleveland may not be the first city you think of when you think of film festivals. Not yet, anyway. The city is hosting their film festival right now and after 30+ years of doing so, the festival seems to be gaining momentum and attention from film makers and lovers everywhere. Renaissance Cleveland is proud to be the official hotel for the jurors of the Cleveland International Film Festival. Even better than that, Renaissance has formulated the perfect vacation package for those visiting the city for the sake of moving pictures:  The 2010 Cleveland International Film Festival Package.

The package includes deluxe accommodations, complimentary parking for one car, complimentary buffet breakfast for two, and four film vouchers that are redeemable for tickets to see films at the festival. And so there we have it. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame isn’t the only thing rocking Cleveland. Watch out, Sundance.

Austin Keeps Things Awesome with SXSW

While some people say Austin keeps things weird, we think they just keep things awesome. Especially if we’re talking music. Austin is knee-deep in South by Southwest right now—a festival with popularity that seems to increase exponentially with each passing year. The music portion of the festival launched last Friday and the city has been swallowed by the sounds of tuning, screeching, and singing guitars. And other instruments. Lots of them.

While big name acts like Stone Temple Pilots and Hole are participating this year, SXSW is better known for bringing unknown artists out of their hiding holes and onto the radar of music lovers. Gogol Bordello, John Butler Trio, Passion Pit, Bon Iver, Au Revoir Simone, Bat for Lashes, and Junior Senior have all made appearances at SXSW in years past, back before they were the big acts they are today.

What we love so much about SXSW is that for music lovers it’s a festival of discovery. Stumble on to some new acts, and who knows, they just might become your new fave band.

That’s why Renaissance Austin is offering the Groove to the Latest Tunes package that includes a sweet deluxe room, a $25 iTunes gift card, and breakfast for two. Book your stay now through May 31, 2010 and be sure to check out the Austin Chronicle for a listing of new bands to discover during your stay.
