If we asked you to hum the melody of that song, “Kiss Me,” by Sixpence None the Richer, you could probably do it. The band’s big hit has been engraved into our permanent memories via commercials and movies like “She’s All That.” Their song “There She Goes” is probably another one you could pluck out the notes to.
So now you’re probably wondering… where has this band been lately? Well, in short, it went something like this: they got famous, broke up, the singer went solo, they reunited in 2007, released an EP, got signed again, and played their first US show in six years last month at the Ford Amphitheatre in Hollywood.
The concert was a benefit for MusiCares, an organization that exists to aid musicians in need of help with anything from addiction recovery to financial crisis. The post-show accommodations for the band were at none other than the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel & Spa.
Congrats on your return to the spotlight, Sixpence, and thanks for choosing Renaissance.
Richard Gere. He’s often seen on the big-budget silver screen and not as often seen in Aruba. Unless the Aruba International Film Festival is happening. The AIFF took place June 4-11 and Gere made an appearance in the Caribbean for the event.
Although Renaissance wasn’t the official hotel for the festival, Gere was nonetheless hosted at the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino, which, by the way, sits upon its very own private island. Pictured in the photo with the resort’s director, Francisco “Chico” Faro, Gere turned the heads of onlooking guests at the Renaissance.
Sarah Ferguson leaves the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel on Sunday May 23rd 2010.
Caught in the middle of a bribe scandal, The Duchess of York (also known as “the original Fergie”) has been making headlines even more than usual these days. But contrary to the bad press she’s been receiving lately, Fergie has always been well known for her humanitarian efforts. The Duchess was recently spotted at Renaissance Hollywood, receiving an award from Variety International for her philanthropic work with disabled and underprivileged children.
Poised as always, Fergie had a lot to say about the nature of philanthropy:
“I learnt today about making a difference. Most importantly I learned I hate grown-ups and I love children. When I got on that plane from London tonight, I thought, phew, what a heavy day. But when the children’s choir came out tonight and I saw their little faces, I turned round to my friend and said, ‘You know what, I’m glad I did because it is about the children’,”
All of you Sex and the City fanatics must be bursting at your seams about now. Sex and the City 2 will be premiering on the silver screen May 27th and Renaissance Times Square is happy to have been part of the sexy filmmaking process. We shared the “unconfirmed” rumors in a previous RLife post. Samantha Jones’ (Kim Cattrall) office with the million dollar view was in fact the Renaissance Times Square restaurant.
Now here’s some good news: we’ll be doing a contest to celebrate this movie opening. The winner will receive a trip to Renaissance Times Square. But you’ll have to stay tuned because that’s all we’re telling you for now.
In the meantime, check out the latest trailer for the film here
Jay-Z, despite rumored retirement, just came out with a new single and a video to accompany it. “Young Forever” is a twist on the classic “Forever Young”, and the song features breakout artist, Mr. Hudson. But Mr. Hudson isn’t news to us. In fact, Mr. Hudson performed the song, albeit the self-proclaimed best rapper alive, atop Renaissance 57 in New York back in September. And now the star will be appearing with Jay-Z at a series of concerts in England next month.
The pair even performed the hit on SNL this past weekend. What can we say? Renaissance is just cool like that. Renaissance concert today, best friends with Jay-Z tomorrow.

Jason Mraz wrote the best song of 2009. “I’m Yours” takes home the title. ASCAP announced this award, alongside so many others, at the ASCAP EXPO held at Renaissance Hollywood last month. From Bill Withers to Justin Timberlake, this event was one for the books. Celebrity musicians trickled into the hotel and made history with jaw-dropping speeches from panelists and intimate interviews.
Both Justin Timberlake and Bill Withers talked openly about the negative experiences they have had with their own labels, as commentary on the industry. Withers revealed that “Lean on Me” was expected to bomb while Timberlake said his label had no faith in “Sexyback”, either. And that, friends, is why we host things like the ASCAP EXPO at Renaissance. Artist empowerment! But seriously, JT, swing by any time.
The 16-year-old musician managed to get his fave purple cap back from two New Zealand girls who took it from him. 3News reports that all the girls wanted was a hug and a picture.
Justin told 3News that he wasn’t angry with them, though. “You stole my property. It’s essentially illegal. But, it’s fine, I forgive you,” he said.
You know you’ve made it when you’re on T.V., right? Well, we’re just going to go ahead and believe that and brag a little about the most recent Renaissance T.V. appearance. “Real Housewives of NYC” filmed our Renaissance 57 location in Season 3, Episode 7 and we’re pretty excited. I mean, it’s kind of like we’re the celebrities in this edition of Just Spotted. Sure, sure, we’re excited that they came into the hotel and all…but we were on T.V.! We’re going to be famous.
The iconic Eden Roc Renaissance Miami Beach became the honorary 7th character in the premiere of the MTV’s “The Hills” last night. The girls waxed dramatic in the Penthouse suite during Super Bowl Weekend 2010. View the episode here
The Eden Roc was ground zero for the Hills shoot as well as for Super Bowl entertainment, which we previously reported here, hosting events and live performances all weekend long. Check back for more Eden Roc excitement soon!
Wonderland was where we all dreamed of going as kids. Alice is who we all wanted to be. Tim Burton has brought these childhood fantasies back to life on the entrancing 3D silver screen with “Alice in Wonderland”.
Johnny Depp, who plays the Mad Hatter in the film, recently stopped by Renaissance Hollywood to discuss falling down the rabbit hole with Burton and the rest of the cast.
The “Alice in Wonderland” press conference was held at the hotel and the movie’s stars, as well as Tim Burton himself, answered questions for the press about the Box Office hit.
“I would have done any character Tim wanted,” explained Depp, who made a point to say that it was Burton, not the role of the Mad Hatter, who attracted him to the film. “To be honest, he could have said ‘Alice’ and I would have said ‘yes,’” Depp clarified. For the record, we’re happy to welcome Johnny to Renaissance regardless of his role. But Johnny Depp as Alice would have been a sight to see.
