When talking design, reinvention can be a good thing. Sometimes you have to grab a bucket of paint, get some new furniture, and see what happens. Renaissance Washington DC Downtown Hotel totally revamped its lobby recently, and the reviews are pouring in: people like it.
The Design File, a website devoted to interior design, recently documented the hotel’s aesthetic overhaul. With mustard-colored walls behind the library’s bookshelves and comfy throw pillows in the inviting lounge, the new lobby is a mix of new and old, upscale and casual. The site calls the space “modern but still warm and cozy”—which makes us happy. That’s what we were going for.
Our new R Style series is meant to help you peer into the world of Renaissance’s Brand Stylist, Dorcia Kelley. She has a taste you might agree with for decorating your own space. The R Style pick for this week is the Artists for Humanity “Standard Table.” It’s a table made from magazines. Fantastic.
Get the table here, and learn more about Artists for Humanity after the jump…
You may not have heard Dorcia Kelley’s name before. That doesn’t mean you haven’t seen her work. Walk into any Renaissance and you’ll see her touch. It’s in the lamp beside the bed in your room. It’s in the music playing in the spa lobby. It’s in the light fixtures in the restaurant.
Dorcia is the Renaissance Hotels Brand Stylist. We respect her eye for design and we want to share her favorite items with you on a weekly basis in an R Style series. Check out her R Style recommendations as they’re posted. If you like the items posted, why not add some of the R Style to your own home?

Unveiling a garden is best done during the summer. That’s what The Imperial Riding School Renaissance Vienna just did. The new City Garden has opened its gates and welcomes the public to spend their days under the park’s sun, and their evenings at the City Garden Lounge.
Have a drink, listen to music, and relax in the 1200-square-meters of lush green that has always surrounded Renaissance Vienna and is now yours to discover every day from 11am on.
If you’re trying to relax in Denver, go to the office—The Corner Office, that is. The kitschy, yet hip restaurant bar is good for more than just cheeseburger sliders and lobster mac ‘n’ cheese. The art in the place draws in diners all by itself.
The most recent addition to the restaurant is a graffiti art piece crafted by the Renaissance Blackstone Chicago general manager, Robert Cartwright. Cartwright had a hand in the recent graffiti display at Blackstone, and, if we may say so—the guy is good. The piece at The Corner Office is filled with bright greens and purples below an image of the Denver skyline. David Villorente helped to create this mural, and the guys suggest you take the art in while sipping on a Graffiti-tini. Not sure how to make a Graffiti-tini? Here’s a hint from The Corner Office:
3 oz. vodka
2 oz. melon puree (honeydew melon, mint, fresh squeezed lemon, simple syrup)
½ oz. mint-infused simple syrup
Alonzo Mourning. You’ve probably heard that name. He’s an NBA basketball player. A retired one. But he’s still working hard. Alonzo’s purpose has extended far beyond the game for the last 13 years. He has been a first class philanthropist traveling the world and making a difference with Alonzo Mourning Charities. We’re happy to help Alonzo help others. That’s why Renaissance Dupont Circle in Washington D.C. hosted “Serendipity”, an evening of art with Alonzo Mourning, on April 15th.
Two nationally renowned artists, Ben Sivells and Alonzo Adams, displayed their work for high profile guests. The “Cool Caribbean” and “French Accent” cocktails from Ciroc kept the crowd pleased—and if the crowd’s pleased, well, we are too.
Renaissance guests appreciate the finer things in life. Fine accommodations, fine dining, and most certainly, fine art. So it makes sense that Renaissance Paris Vendome would partner up with the Pavillon des Arts this March for Pavillon des Arts et du Design—an annual modern art and design fair that attracts the biggest names in the industry.
One of those big names was Parisian jewelry designer Sylvie Corbelin, who creates rings and things from damaged, odd, or incomplete antique jewelry. She has found a way to make new of the old… and we like her.
There’s always art to be seen in Paris and priceless sights to be saved in your memory forever.
Tradition matters in England. That’s why Renaissance Manchester works hard to keep the Elizabethan Era alive.
The Renaissance Manchester hotel is located in the heart of Manchester’s entertainment district, which juxtaposes historic England against modern Manchester. Antique stores that hold England’s history dear, especially the important Elizabethan Era, are strewn across Manchester.
If shopping is your vice, then the Shopping Package at the Renaissance Manchester hotel will help you kick-start your quest for remnants of the Elizabethan Era.
The package includes:
• Deluxe accommodations for two nights
• Dinner, bed, and breakfast rate for two adults
• Twenty pounds in shopping vouchers per room for an exclusive High Street store
• Late check-out
Keeping a business running (successfully at that) for 85 years is a pretty big deal. That’s why Renaissance Vinoy in St. Petersburg is celebrating the feat with an anniversary special that will run all of 2010. The internet is abuzz with rave reviews claiming this special is worth every penny. You can’t always believe everything you read online, sure, but it’s difficult to disbelieve travelers when they say this package is a steal (one that’s saving guests around $100 on average). The Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club is offering the following as part of the Anniversary Package:
• Luxury resort accommodations
• Three-course dinner for two from the ‘1925 Classic Dining’ menu at Marchand’s Bar & Grill
• Choice of two tickets to St. Petersburg Museum of History or Salvador Dali Museum, located within walking distance from the hotel
• Copy of “Views from the Vinoy” history book which, is used in the Pinellas County school curriculum to educate students about St. Petersburg’s history
• Pair of tickets to hotel history tour** led by the resort’s in-house historian who has been with the hotel for 18 years
