The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg isn’t like other resorts. This resort is one that’s rich in history. As the hotel celebrates its 85th anniversary this year, you can dive into its history while taking advantage of a deal you’ll have a hard time looking away from.

The 85th Anniversary Retreat is up and running now through the end of 2010. Take advantage of this deal and you’ll get deluxe accommodations at the resort, a three-course 1925 Classic Dining dinner for two at Marchand’s Bar and Grill (the original dining room at the resort), a complimentary History of Vinoy book at arrival, a Vinoy History Tour conducted by one of the hotel’s historians, and a choice pair of tickets to either the St. Petersburg Museum of History or the Salvador Dali Museum.

Knowing the history of a hotel, especially an old hotel, really does enhance your overall experience while staying at the hotel. At least we think so.

The Titanic’s legend has been passed around all over the world by this point. Movies, TV shows, and books all detail the most tragic shipwreck in American history with solemn respect for those who died and an awe toward the vulnerability of mankind (and the things men create). The story of this giant ill-fated boat fascinates people from across the globe. If you too are fascinated by the Titanic, Renaissance Columbus Downtown has a deal for you—Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition.

Through September 6th, guests of the hotel can book this deal and receive deluxe accommodations, valet parking for one car, VIP admission tickets to the Center of Science and Industry with admission to the Titanic exhibit (no line-standing for you), 10% off at the Science2 GO Gift Shop, and a free Bambi scoop of Jeni’s Ice Cream at the Short North Location.

For the record, we’ve had Jeni’s ice cream ourselves and the verdict is in: that stuff will keep you coming back to Columbus long after the Titanic exhibit closes.

Great Taste is Always in Style at The Mayflower Renaissance

Summers in DC are suited for the carefree and indulgent. The capital boasts a nightlife that stands out on the East coast, and every year foodies in Washington look forward to the time when Restaurant Week hits. And it’s about to hit.

Restaurant Week DC will bring diners out of the woodwork from August 16-22 in the city. Café Promenade, located inside The Mayflower Renaissance Hotel, is joining forces with other local restaurants for this savory week.

The hotel’s executive chef, Abdellah Aguenaou, worked with historian Keith McClinsey to put together special three-course lunch and dinner menus in honor of the tasty event. The menus highlight the signature dishes that have kept the famous and powerful returning to the spot for lunches and dinners for most of the last century. From Lump Crab Cake Imperial “1953″ to Mayflower Strawberry Pie “1932,” these dishes will teach guests a thing or two about American history while simultaneously satisfying their most refined culinary tastes.

As General Manager Satinder Palta likes to say, “At the Mayflower, great taste is always in style.” To which we might add: especially when great taste is a bargain.

When Dutch soccer stars come to Aruba, everyone gets excited. Arjen Robben, Mark van Bommel, Dirk Kuyt, and Andre Ooijer recently visited the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino, and thousands of orange-clad locals gathered around the hotel to celebrate their visit. Aruban Prime Minister, Mike Eman, honored the players for their outstanding performance in the World Cup by recognizing them each as Ambassadors of Goodwill in Aruba.

After the award ceremony, those gathered outside the hotel had a chance to meet the players. A festival of culture, entertainment, shows, and kids activities overtook the area in the hours following the ceremony.

A message to our famous soccer playing readers: visit a Renaissance. Do it for the fans.

Not everyone likes Barbie Dolls. But the people who do like them tend to like them a lot. Like… enough to hold a convention for people who collect Barbies. And that’s why the National Barbie Doll Collector Convention exists. And for the first time ever, the convention is being held in Cleveland—at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel downtown.

This Saturday, July 24th, the convention will fill the Renaissance Cleveland from 10am-3pm, and Barbie Doll enthusiasts will get to meet doll designers and take a walk down memory lane with the 51-year-old doll—the youngest looking 51-year-old we’ve ever seen.

Nartana Holzweiler is more than an artist—he’s an artist actively supporting change. Concerned with poverty in Thailand, Nartana has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Thailand and Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa to help build 10 homes in Thailand this year for needy families.

“Looking Beyond the Known—Touched by the East” will showcase from July 23 to September 30 at Tawann Restaurant, located inside the Renaissance Koh Samui. The art show will feature Holzweiler’s work and will allow for visiting guests to make a contribution to the fund, while simultaneously supporting a local artist. And by local, I mean right down the street. The German-born painter now resides on Koh Samui. He’s living and working in paradise—a paradise you should make plans to visit.

People use a lot of words to describe New York City. “Expensive” is one of those words. And sure, this adjective fits the bill. Usually. But one thing travelers often overlook is the abundance of free stuff in New York.

During the summers, concerts at Central Park’s Summer Stage are the fee-free place to be. Make sure you go—especially if you’re staying at Renaissance New York Hotel 57 or Renaissance New York Times Square. Both hotels are within walking distance from the park. The entire world has been in hysterics over the World Cup. Have you seen Twitter lately? Every trending topic seems to be related to soccer—or celebrities who showed up at a soccer game.

Even though Brazil is no longer in the running for the championship on Sunday, Renaissance Sao Paulo is offering something special for fans who want to swing by the hotel to watch the final game. If you’re in Brazil this Sunday, you’re invited to watch the game in the hotel’s new bar, Living Lounge Bar & Sushi, on a media wall made up of nine 46-inch HD monitors (take a minute and just envision that).

The bar has a list of cocktails that have been created especially for this showdown. You can drink “Red Cards” and “Yellow Cards” during this elongated happy hour. No matter who you’re rooting for while in Brazil, Renaissance Sao Paulo is the place to watch the game.

It’s one thing to like Maxwell’s music. But to be a fan, a true fan, takes more devotion than just liking the guy’s music. RoseAda Watts from Cleveland, Ohio, is a true fan of Maxwell. She’s also the winner of “The Renaissance of Cool” sweepstakes. Watts and her boyfriend are being flown out to catch the Maxwell show in NYC. They’ll be put up at the Renaissance New York Times Square and receive VIP tickets to the concert and afterparty.

She was, of course, happy to get the news that she’s the contest winner. “I’m so excited and thankful to be the winner of this contest!” said Watts, eager to pack her bags for the trip.

A big thanks to everyone who entered this contest. If you’re bummed Watts won this instead of you—just wait. We have some other contests coming up.
