While staying at a Renaissance in Chicago, whether it’s the Blackstone, O’Hare Suites or Downtown, you might not want to leave the plush bed in your room. But we encourage you to do just that. Leave the hotel. Explore the city.

If you’re at a loss for how to spend your spare time in this comfy urban sprawl, we have some ideas for you. Check out the options after the jump, and start planning your perfect day in Chicago.

1. Kuma’s for burgers. This burger joint will be especially tasty to those of you who like rock ‘n’ roll. The sandwiches are fiery and named after bands. The ingredients are surprising. In a good way.

2. Go to the beach. Why not? With the skyline behind you and Lake Michigan ahead, you can lounge all day in the sun without leaving city limits. Foster Beach is a nice spot.

3. Drive to West Chicago for a drive-in movie. The suburbs are worth it if you’re scoring two newly released movies for $9—at a drive-in, no less. Cascade Drive-in is well worth the drive.

4. Shop along Milwaukee Avenue. You’ll find just about anything you want here.

5. Drop by Kingston Mines for some non-stop live blues, paired with a drink.

After you’ve followed through on having a perfect day in Chicago, then you can go hole up in your Renaissance room.

The city of Chicago offers such a vast array of activities. From it’s blue’s/jazz clubs to it’s extraordinary museums and parks. As comfortable and homey as our hotels can be, I also encourage you to dive in and explore the magnificent city of Chicago!
