While some people say Austin keeps things weird, we think they just keep things awesome. Especially if we’re talking music. Austin is knee-deep in South by Southwest right now—a festival with popularity that seems to increase exponentially with each passing year. The music portion of the festival launched last Friday and the city has been swallowed by the sounds of tuning, screeching, and singing guitars. And other instruments. Lots of them.

While big name acts like Stone Temple Pilots and Hole are participating this year, SXSW is better known for bringing unknown artists out of their hiding holes and onto the radar of music lovers. Gogol Bordello, John Butler Trio, Passion Pit, Bon Iver, Au Revoir Simone, Bat for Lashes, and Junior Senior have all made appearances at SXSW in years past, back before they were the big acts they are today.

What we love so much about SXSW is that for music lovers it’s a festival of discovery. Stumble on to some new acts, and who knows, they just might become your new fave band.

That’s why Renaissance Austin is offering the Groove to the Latest Tunes package that includes a sweet deluxe room, a $25 iTunes gift card, and breakfast for two. Book your stay now through May 31, 2010 and be sure to check out the Austin Chronicle for a listing of new bands to discover during your stay.
