If you’re in the Chicago area, we may have an event for you tonight. It all depends on one thing: whether you like wine and food. We’re guessing you like at least one of the two.
Renaissance Schaumburg will be hosting a special dinner for wine lovers tonight from 6pm-9pm. Sam & Harry’s, located inside the hotel, will be showcasing Terlato Family Vineyards wine with the dinner, which will be held inside the convention center at Renaissance Schaumburg. Beginning with a Champagne reception, the evening will consist of five courses—each course paired with the perfect Terlato wine. Check out the menu. If it makes you hungry (or thirsty), make a reservation while you still can.

In case you haven’t heard of the dynamic and awesome duo, Alex and Luke, here’s a brief summary of what the couple does: they travel around all of North America and power their fun via social networking. The pair chose to stay at the Renaissance New Orleans Arts Hotel while recently in New Orleans, and they even shouted out the place in their July 19th video. We couldn’t help but get a hold of the nomads and ask them some questions about their NOLA experience.

Not everyone likes Barbie Dolls. But the people who do like them tend to like them a lot. Like… enough to hold a convention for people who collect Barbies. And that’s why the National Barbie Doll Collector Convention exists. And for the first time ever, the convention is being held in Cleveland—at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel downtown.
This Saturday, July 24th, the convention will fill the Renaissance Cleveland from 10am-3pm, and Barbie Doll enthusiasts will get to meet doll designers and take a walk down memory lane with the 51-year-old doll—the youngest looking 51-year-old we’ve ever seen.

One of our new favorite spots is a lounge in Renaissance Long Beach that serves delicious drinks. Aptly named SIP, the bar has launched a Happy Hour that’s drawing in drink-appreciators from the area, as well as guests from the hotel.
Every Sunday through Thursday, 4pm-7pm, SIP presents the 123456 Happy Hour—also aptly named. Featured drinks during this time range from $1-$6… and we’re not talking about the average beers on tap you’ll find at other bars.
SIP, although newly opened, has already earned a reputation for having some of the coolest cocktails in town—from the classics you count on, to the modern drinks with descriptions so unique you just have to try them. An excellent beer and wine selection is also part of the Happy Hour. Or, shall we say, the three happiest hours of your day, five days a week?

Nartana Holzweiler is more than an artist—he’s an artist actively supporting change. Concerned with poverty in Thailand, Nartana has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Thailand and Renaissance Koh Samui Resort & Spa to help build 10 homes in Thailand this year for needy families.
“Looking Beyond the Known—Touched by the East” will showcase from July 23 to September 30 at Tawann Restaurant, located inside the Renaissance Koh Samui. The art show will feature Holzweiler’s work and will allow for visiting guests to make a contribution to the fund, while simultaneously supporting a local artist. And by local, I mean right down the street. The German-born painter now resides on Koh Samui. He’s living and working in paradise—a paradise you should make plans to visit.

Stopping in Seattle before or after a cruise? If you’re heading toward Alaska, you probably are. Seattle is an awesome city worth visiting whether you need a pre- or post-cruise stopover, but for those of you with sea legs who’ll need some city-walking, Renaissance Seattle is now offering a package for you.
The Sea to See package will hook you up with overnight accommodations for two in a Corner King Suite, a shuttle transfer for two from the airport, a 3.5-hour bus tour for two of Seattle—and that bus will pick you up and drop you off at Renaissance Seattle. Not too shabby for a stopping point.

You know what’s cooler than picking out Heart and Soul on the piano? Listening to ELEW play awesome Rockjazz piano. ELEW is one of our favorite rock stars at Renaissance. Luckily, the piano sensation likes us back. And he likes to play at Renaissance hotels.
Tomorrow, July 17th, at 8:30pm, ELEW will be performing at Makassar—the super-delicious restaurant tucked inside of Renaissance Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The guy has performed at the White House, among other spots, which is our way of saying: catch him at Renaissance while you still can.
RSVP for the show on Facebook. And check out a shot of Makassar after the jump…

People use a lot of words to describe New York City. “Expensive” is one of those words. And sure, this adjective fits the bill. Usually. But one thing travelers often overlook is the abundance of free stuff in New York.
During the summers, concerts at Central Park’s Summer Stage are the fee-free place to be. Make sure you go—especially if you’re staying at Renaissance New York Hotel 57 or Renaissance New York Times Square. Both hotels are within walking distance from the park. Check out the Central Park Summer Stage concert calendar to finalize your plans.
